Attitude The Heart Of Integral Spirituality

For Panikkar the heart of spirituality is centred upon Attitude. Attitude is the story of ego. Ego is the heart of human consciousness. Edward Edinger has illustrated the journey of life as a story of development and maturation of the ego for the purpose of re-orientation from self-centred to the totality of one’s whole being. In the Jungian personality model this would signify the orientation toward the Self Archetype, the symbol of one’s totality of being, the conjunction of the divine and creative being. This journey of maturation of the ego is the story of the transforming attitude of ego, in Gerard May’s terms, from wilful to willing. It indicates one’s increasing harmony with all that we are. For Jung that is understood as the reconciling of opposites, while for Panikkar the experience of unity - in rhythm and harmony. It is the story of love, for love is the coming together of all things in the perfect display and affirmation of life.  Its mission is the purity of heart.
