The Inter-Relational Mind

Panikkar's mind is broad as suggested by his three doctorates, philosophy, science, and theology. Each provides its unique contribution to his understanding of the relationality of reality. Theologically his thinking is built upon his early learning of the Trinity and its relationality of Father Son and Holy Spirit. While living in India in his search to reconcile his Indian Spanish heritage, he studied the Hindu tradition and found the Advaitic concept of relationality. Whereas the Christian concept of Trinity is more focused on the relationality of God, Advaita focuses more on the relationality of Creator, Creation and Creature.

To elaborate Panikkar speaks of the relationality of the three, Creator, Creation and Creature by coining the three concepts in the term Cosmotheandric. It is the composite of Cosmos - Creation, Theos - God, and Andros - humanity. It is the sight of the third eye to see all that is as one dynamic, universal, non-dual, organic, inter-relational, inter-dependent whole.

In this new century, we speak of the information explosion Panikkar highlights that he is not interested in describing a universal theory of everything for it is not possible to know everything. Rather universal wholistic perception is an internal experience. One must discover the wholistic frame of mind within. This is to do with attitude which opens the mind to the third sight. It sees the inter-related nature of all things.
